Course Description (Curriculum)/Materials Needed

Course Description:

This course will give the student a basic knowledge of the medical anatomy and physiology, terminology, ethics and diseases/disorders. Throughout the course, we will study various body systems grouped in six different units. The six units are unit 1: levels of organization, unit 2: support and movement, unit 3: regulation, integration, and control, unit 4: fluids and transport, unit 5: energy, maintenance, and environment exchange, and unit 6: human development and continuity of life. This class will include book work as well as lab work.

Chromebook or computer for completing assignments

In-person Classroom

Pencil and pen for writing notes – WILL NEED A WRITING UTENSIL EVERY DAY
Binder for organizing notes and worksheets
Loose leaf paper
All current labs, notes and assignments

Blended Leaning Environment:

This year we will be using a blended leaning environment. Because of this, all classes will be videotaped. Although the camera will be pointed toward the teacher, there may be occasion where the cadet's image or voice may be visible from the camera. If you do not want your cadet to be seen on video, please make sure they know to stay behind the camera or turn off their personal cameras if joining the class on google meets.

Homework:

This class does require homework and will require study time at home in order to master the given information. It is expected that all students will complete the homework assigned and turn it in. Homework is given in order to reinforce the things that are learned in class and to provide the opportunity for practice.

Attendance/Tardy Policy/Make-Up Work:

Cadets will be given two days for every day they are absent to complete any make-up homework or missing assignments.
Cadets are responsible for any work that was missed while absent.
Cadets will be marked “T” for tardy if they are not at rest outside the classroom when the bell rings.
If the cadet is more than ten minutes late to class, they will be marked as absent for that class period.
Cadets are only allowed nine absences (excused or unexcused) each semester.

DISHONESTY WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. ANY CADET BEING DISHONEST, OR ASSISTING A CADET TO BE DISHONEST, ON ANY ASSIGNMENT, QUIZ, TEST, LAB, OR CLASS WORK WILL RECEIVE POSSIBLE SCHOOL DISCIPLINARY ACTION.

Weighted score breakdown:

35% Assessments (included both tests and quizzes)

30% Labs (includes both participation and lab worksheets)

25% Assignments (includes both in-class worksheets and homework)

10% Class Participation (will represent attitude, class participation, and notebook)

100% total

Homework/Extra Credit

Late work will be accepted up to 1 week late. After two days grace period, the assignment will lose 10% every week it is late.
I do not offer extra credit assignments but there are in class opportunities for extra points throughout the school year.
Cadets will be rewarded for going above and beyond on their assignments.
Assignments and labs can be corrected for partial credit, but they MUST BE completed before the unit test.
Missing Assignments will be given a grade of zero points.

Cell Phone/Electronic Equipment:

Cell phones and other electronic equipment (I-pods, CD players, mp3 players, etc.) are distracting to me, as a teacher, and they detract from the learning environment necessary in a classroom. As there have been many problems with the use of cell phones in the past, the following rules will be enforced:

Cell phones and other electronics are not to be in my classroom; electronic equipment of any kind is to be left in bags or lockers, out of sight.
If visible, in use or not, phones will be confiscated.
After the third confiscation, the phone or other electronic will be turned into the office.
